WHEN PLANNING YOUR NEXT MEAL, THINK PUMPKIN LEAVES

Hey there,

How are you? How have you been holding up?

It’s been a moment. We hope you have been keeping to a balanced diet.

It is that time of the week when we get to share amazing food tips with you. This week we will be discussing the health benefit of one underrated vegetable which doubles as a super food “UGWU”.

For starters, “UGWU” is referred to as “pumpkin leaf” in English and it contains a whole lot of nutrients. It is rich in Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Folate, Protein and is also a good source of Vitamins A, B6 and C amongst other nutrients.

Also, ugwu ranks high on the satiety. It contains soluble fiber which helps to slow down digestion thereby keeping you fuller for longer. In other words, since ugwu takes a longer time to digest, it holds your tummy for a longer period compared to other vegetables.

Ugwu extract serves as blood boosters especially for anemic patients. While malt and milk is a good blood booster, it’s not 100% safe since malt contains sugar. However, ugwu extracts .i.e. the water from ugwu leaves, with little milk, is a perfectly safe blood booster.

People with diabetes are also advised to consume more of ugwu leaves while taking carbohydrates, as the leaves serve as a blood sugar regulator. The leaves also contain fruit enzymes which help increase cell turnover, enhance vision and prevent signs of aging.

In addition, Ugwu is good for weight loss. It contains a high amount of dietary cholesterol and water that aid weight loss. Since it also keeps you feeling fuller for longer, you tend to take your next meal much later after consuming ugwu.

Ugwu should however be steamed rather than boiled. That way it’s healthier and yummier. So when next you cook ugwu, cook it for 3-5 minutes and then serve.

In all, ugwu is amazing. It is healthy, super affordable and can go with almost any meal, ranging from egg, yam, rice, spaghetti and swallow. So when planning your meal henceforth, please remember to add ugwu.

Thank you so much for reading this. Please do well to share with your friends and ask questions on any grey area via any of our platforms.

Stay safe and eat healthy..
