DATES, CALORIES AND MODERATION

 Holla☺

It’s been a moment. How have you been holding up?

We hope do hope that you’ve been intentional about your diet and stayed consistent.

It’s that time of the week where we share amazing healthy food tips with you and this week we will be sharing with you the health benefits of DATES.

Date is a flowering plant in the palm family cultivated for its edible sweet fruit. It has a wrinkled brown covering with a sweet yellowish chewy seed on the inside. In Nigeria, dates are usually hawked around by the Hausas and are mostly consumed by Muslims during their annual fast.

Date remains an underrated fruit as its health benefits top that of other fruits owing to the fact that it’s mostly consumed when dry, rather than fresh. Here are a few health benefits of Dates:

Dates are super rich in calories (mainly from their carb and protein content). They thus provide the body with a lot of energy after consuming it. They are also rich in vitamins, iron and other essential minerals.

They are rich in fiber which is good for blood sugar control and healthy stool formation.

Dates rate low on the Glycemic Index; meaning, your blood sugar hardly ever rises after eating dates.

They are rich in antioxidants which help lower the risk of diabetes, cancer, inflammation and they help improve brain health.

Pregnant women are also advised to consume more of dates in their last trimester to ease late-term labor and promote timely cervical dilation.

These are just a few of date’s health benefit. They could also replace white sugar as they remain a natural and healthier source of sugar. Date is an amazing fruit that can be consumed fresh or dried as a snack or could serve as a fruit additive to pastries

If you however look forward to weight loss, you should be wary of dates and consume it in variation as its high calorie content aids weight gain. Dates should thus be taken in moderation. 4-6 dates a day and not a date more, is more than enough for anybody.

In summary, Dates are healthy, super-edible and tempting, with a lot of health benefits and should be taken in moderation.

Thank you so much for reading this. Please do well to share with your friends and ask questions on any grey area via any of our platforms.

Till we meet again next week, remember to stay safe and eat healthy.

All our love.
