IT'S NOT AS BAD AS THEY SAY IT IS
First off, EGG belongs to a class of food called super food. This is due to the fact that it is loaded with a lot of nutrients. It contains Protein, Calcium, Vitamin A, B-6 and D, Sugar, Cobalamin, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium and Cholesterol. Research has also shown that it contains a nutrient which most people do not know exist, Choline. Choline helps build cell membranes amongst other various functions. Egg is thus the king of nutrients.
Well, the important thing about the consumption of food is moderation and knowing your body type. Studies have shown that there is no connection between the intake of eggs and increased risk of heart disease in any person who will be deemed healthy under normal circumstances. Cholesterol in egg is the one nutrient likely to increase the risk of heart disease, but for every day you take egg, your body recognizes that there is already the presence of dietary cholesterol and for that day, the liver will produce a lesser amount of cholesterol than it normally would.
However, people with diabetes do have an increased risk of heart disease. So persons with diabetes should be weary of eggs. It is advisable to eat the egg without the yolk and if you were to eat the yolk, eat it with vegetables.
Also EGG ranks high on the satiety index .This means that egg is tummy filing. It tends to fill you up faster, hold you for longer and reduce later calorie intake. This means that egg is a go, for people who want to lose weight, since it fills you up and reduces the quantity of calories you consume the next time you are hungry.
Lastly, the method of cooking your egg also matters. Cooking eggs for a long period of time and on high temperatures tends to kill the nutrient in it. Fried eggs should be taken sparingly as the oil used in frying the egg tends to add more cholesterol to the egg and frying kills some of the nutrients in the egg. Boiled or Poached eggs are advised as they cook for a shorter period and they do not add cholesterol to the egg.
In all, egg is a super food which should be consumed regularly. Taking up to three whole eggs a day is perfectly safe. Taking it with vegetables and without the yoke is however safer. People with diabetes should however consume eggs sparingly.
