CANCER AND DIET 3

 Hey there,

Welcome to another edition of Healthy Edibles Weekly Newsletter.

It is the third week of our Cancer Awareness Campaign and this week we’ll be sharing with you, the Side Effects of Consuming Soda.

We all love soda and its so called refreshing taste. The fact that it is very affordable makes it even more appealing but what we do not know is that soda isn’t as pleasant to our bodies as it appears to be. Some people tend to think that soda is only harmful because it causes weight gain. However, over the years research has shown that soda is a lot more harmful.

Sodas are beverages that are loaded with sugar, food chemicals and colorings. Soda pops (the gaseous part of soda) acidifies the body and literally feeds cancer cells. Their sugar content is popular known to raise blood sugar levels in the body. Common soda chemicals e.g. caramel color and its derivative form harmful chemicals that have specifically been linked to causing cancer.

So why willingly poison yourself when there are healthier refreshing options?  Here is a list of healthier beverage options that could substitute for soda:

Smoothie: this is a healthy drink made from pureed or blended fruits and vegetables. They come with a liquid base of water, milk, yoghurt or ice cream. They are healthy mainly because they contain fruits and vegetables. Smoothies are healthy, nourishing, tummy-filling and an amazing substitute to soda.

Fruit juice: these are drinks made from the extraction of the natural liquid contained in fruits and vegetables. Their natural sugar content is incapable of spiking blood sugar levels. They serve as cancer protective drink and a good substitute to soda.

Yoghurt: it is a healthy beverage produced from the bacteria fermentation of protein. They are rich in protein and help boost the immune system; they are also good for heart health and they also help aid weight management. Yoghurt preferably Greek Yoghurt is tummy-filling and an amazing substitute to soda.

Soda should be avoided completely and even if it should be taken at all, it should be taken occasionally.
