LEMONS & YOUR BODY

 Hey there,

Welcome to another edition of Healthy Edibles Weekly Newsletter.

This week our healthy food gist is centered around the latest food rave, "LEMONS".

Apparently, Lemon is the new dope. A bottle of lemon water in hand and you begin to get stares of awe and approval. Well, while most are just crazy about this new rave, only few understand the health implications of consuming lemon.

Lemon serves as one of the richest source of citric acid. It provides the body with Vitamin C, B1, B2, Calcium, Copper and Iron. Lemon also contains dietary fibre and is known for it's low-calorie nature.

Lemon can be used in making lemonades, lemon-infused water, lemon flavored pies, lemon zest, lemon tea and the likes. It can even be used to bake meat, fish and vegetables. But, asides all these cooking functions, Lemon can serve the body better.

Consumption of lemon-flavored or lemon-infused water promotes hydration.

It serves as a primary antioxidant that helps protect our body cells from damaging free radicals.

Due to its low-calorie nature and dietary fibre component, lemon aids proper digestion and weight  loss. Taking lemon water consistently fills the tummy and helps shed body fat.

Lemon  is also known to help regulate blood sugar levels and offset the negative effects of blood glucose levels.

Lemon enhances the skin, reduces damage from the sun, prevents dry skin from aging and reduces skin wrinkling.

Warm or hot lemon-infused water helps to treat cramps and tummy pains.

The citrate component of lemon makes urine less acidic and helps prevent kidney stones.

Lastly, lemon-infused water freshen the breath. It stimulate saliva and prevents a dry mouth which could breed bad bacteria.

The health benefits of lemon cannot be overstated. Like other superfoods, lemon serves the heaviest of body functions. Lemon should however be taking in moderation due to it's high citric concentration. A slice of lemon is enough for a glass of water. It should never be more.

People with ulcer should also consume lemon in very minute quantities as it's high citric content is capable of worsening ulcer sores.

In all, moderation is key. Start your day with a glass of lemon-infused water, carry around a bottle of lemon-flavored water for the day and end your day with a glass of lemon-infused water.
