WHILE ON THE WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY with Nwadiogbu Ogechukwu

Image
Hello, I had an interview with my friend, Oge, on her weight loss journey, which I found really inspiring. She has agreed to share it with Healthy Edibles family 🤗 Below are some of the questions she was asked and her answers. I hope it inspires you too😊 1. Tell me about your weight gain story. It all started about 3years ago. I started gaining weight and  I honestly liked it at first. But after about 6 months to a year, it wasn’t nice anymore and I couldn’t control it. Then, a painful and heartbreaking situation happened to me and I unknowingly started having eating disorder. I more or less found happiness and solace in food. At that period, the weight gain got worse and it affected me psychologically. I had self image issues— saw myself as ugly, even when I knew I was beautiful. I detested taking pictures and looking at the mirror. 2. How do you feel about your current size? I feel better about it now. I’m learning to love my body more everyday. Sometimes, this self image issue...

Hey there, Welcome to another edition of Healthy Edibles Weekly Newsletter. It is the third week of our Cancer Awareness Campaign and this week we’ll be sharing with you, the Side Effects of Consuming Soda. We all love soda and its so called refreshing taste. The fact that it is very affordable makes it even more appealing but what we do not know is that soda isn’t as pleasant to our bodies as it appears to be. Some people tend to think that soda is only harmful because it causes weight gain. However, over the years research has shown that soda is a lot more harmful. Their sugar content is popular known to raise blood sugar levels in the body. Common soda chemicals e.g. caramel color and its derivative form harmful chemicals that have specifically been linked to causing cancer. So why willingly poison yourself when ...

Hey there, Welcome to another edition of Healthy Edibles Weekly Newsletter. It is the second week of our Cancer Awareness Campaign and this week we’ll be sharing the Health Impacts of Smoked Food. We all love perfectly smoked meat (which is popularly referred to as “suya” or “asun” in this part of the world). We don’t mind sitting down to a wrap of that perfectly smoked “mallam suya” with garri, oats, pap or whatever we love to combine it with. While eating suya, roasted corn, smoked guinea fowl and smoked pepper chicken can be tasty, satisfying and pleasurable, it is not so healthy. Smoked food contains harmful chemicals known as Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Heterocyclic amines (HCAs). When smoking food at high temperatures or with direct heat, the food tends to blacken; those blackened areas contain HCAs. Also the oil that drips into the fire while smoking produces smoke containing PAHs that cling to the surface of food and even the skin. These chemicals are very ...
